Six Straight: Keegan Swenson Wins Leadville Again for a 6-peat!
There are tough races, and then there’s Leadville.
The Leadville Trail 100 MTB is brutal by design. It sends riders more than 100 miles through the Colorado Rockies, nearly 10,000 feet of climbing, and elevations above 12,000 feet. Thin air. Relentless miles. Very little room for error. And for the sixth year in a row, Keegan Swenson came out on top.
This year, even getting to the start line came with uncertainty. The Willow Fire threatened the traditional course, forcing organizers to redraw the route just days before race day. The route changed, but the challenge remained intact.
Keegan arrived as the five-time defending champion and reigning marathon mountain bike world champion, facing one of the deepest fields Leadville has ever seen. Five straight victories made him the benchmark and the rider everyone came to beat.
From the start, the race lived up to the hype and Keegan attacked. The pack caught up to him and the lead group came back together. After 102 miles and more than five hours of racing at altitude, nobody had managed to have the race in the bag. With three miles to go, Keegan and Matthew Wilson separated themselves from the group and it came down to the final stretch through downtown Leadville. Side by side, the two riders launched an all-out sprint for the line, separated by inches as a photo finish.
Keegan crossed first in 5:20:26, taking the win by the narrowest of margins and delivering a photo finish win, tying the all-time record for consecutive elite men’s victories.
Another One for the History Books
The victory marks Keegan's sixth consecutive Leadville Trail 100 title, extending a streak that began in 2021 and tying the all-time record for consecutive elite men's wins, set by David Wiens from 2003 to 2008.
Six years of lining up at one of the hardest races in the sport with a target on his back. Six years of finding a way to get it done; dominant when he could be, patient when he had to be, and, this time going absolutely all out in the last hundred yards. That's what staying a champion actually looks like. Not one perfect day. But thousands of imperfect ones, strung together.
